Paint correction is the process of restoring a vehicle's paintwork by removing surface imperfections such as swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, water spots, and holograms. It involves using specialized tools (like dual action or rotary polishers), abrasive compounds, and polishing pads to level the clear coat or paint surface, resulting in a smooth, glossy finish. The process typically includes multiple stages of polishing, starting with heavier cutting compounds to remove defects and progressing to finer polishes for a high-gloss finish.
Steps in Paint Correction:
Washing and Decontamination: The vehicle is thoroughly cleaned to remove dirt, grime, and contaminants like tar or iron particles.
Inspection: The paint is examined under proper lighting to identify imperfections.
Compounding: A coarse abrasive compound is used to remove deeper scratches and defects.
Polishing: Finer polishes refine the surface, enhancing clarity and gloss.
Finishing or Jeweling: Avery fine polish is applied to enhance shine.
Optional Protection: After all the work to bring the vehicles paint close to new, a Ceramic coating should be applied to protect it.
